Instagram – Will you stay or will you go?

Facebook owned Instagram has recently come under question for its changes in privacy policy to allow advertisers access to the photos you post on Instagram. With no opt out option, this has angered users of the Instagram app with many threatening to close down accounts rather than stay and have their works of art, family photos and unique pictures used for advertising purposes without their permission.

Instagram is now in damage control and has come back saying that

“it is not our intention to sell your photos”

and promises to update its policy to ensure that users understand their meaning, which is yet to become clear.

The updated privacy policy will come into effect on 16 Jan 2013.  In the meantime users have a choice whether to close their Instagram accounts or take the risk that their photos will not be used.

There are other photo sharing devices that people can use including Google’s recently acquired Snapseed and Yahoo’s Flickr which has recently become available on Apple iPhone as well as Android smartphone devices. With so many photo-sharing apps emerging, can Instagram afford to be making its own rules on what they do with your information?

What do you think? Will you change your photo sharing service or continue with Instagram?
